learn the art of chinese dance - water sleeves, with guest instructor criss! water sleeves are long, flowing silk extensions from the cuffs of dresses or blouses. originating in ancient Chinese opera and court dances, they act as fluid extensions of the dancer's arms to mimic the graceful, sweeping movements of flowing water and moving clouds. (imitation water sleeves are included in the cost of the class!)
who this is for: this is an open-level class for all abilities
what to expect: intentional warm-up, history of the dance, and learning movements incorporating the water sleeves as an extension of self through flicking, spinning, and catching the fabric with precise timing and physical strength.
what to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in. imitation water sleeves will be attached to wrists so keep those clear of jewelry. feel free to dance in bare feet, socks or ballet shoes (non pointe)
