IRISH DANCE: learn Céilí Dancing

  • Rio Dance Studio 5068 U.S. 93 South Whitefish, MT, 59937 United States (map)

During this event, we will be learning Ceili dancing with Claire Gutschenritter from Flathead Valley Irish Dance. Ceili is a timeless social dance from Ireland for every generation. Ceili calling uses the terms "ladies & gents" - so bring your partners if they want to join! But as always, any human or gender expression who wants to dance is welcome and encouraged.

Ceili dancing is for all levels of experience. Once we start Ceili dancing, participants can choose the level of exertion that they prefer! Walking, shuffling, and hopping around all work just fine.

Any dance shoe (or clean gym shoe) is great.  Socks can be slippery and risky for toes. Plan to wear something you can easily move in.  Layers are good, as is breathable fabric.  Don't forget your water bottles!

Claire Gutschenritter began dancing at about 8 years old, shortly after her grandparents brought her to see Riverdance in Chicago.  She spent her grade school years training and performing in Chicago with the Sheila Tully Academy of Irish Dance and the Trinity Academy of Irish Dance.  In 2009, she became a permanent Montana resident and, while earning her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Montana, danced with Missoula Irish Dancers.  She has been teaching both Irish dance and grade school in Kalispell since 2012.
